The BMW R90S hit the motorcycling world in 1973 with all the subtlety of a Panzer assault. In one bold stroke, the BMW served notice that its motorcycles would no longer be associated with just comfortable touring machines. The cafe-faired R90S was an entry into the ranks of the first superbikes. Indeed, the first U.S. AMA Superbike Championship was won by Reg Pridmore riding an R90S in 1976. Between 1973 and 1976, the R90S was arguably the best all around sportbike being produced. The R90S combined speed, agility and comfort into one of the more memorable aesthic packages of the day.
